Adobe Flash, aka 'Adobe Crash'

I'll admit that I am not the brightest person when it comes to troubleshooting my computer problems. I can usually find some intelligent discussion on message boards by searching my problem on google, but often the solution is too complicated for me to understand, or I am not comfortable manually editing my registry scripts.

The thing that is frustrating me currently is Flash has stopped working on my Firefox browser. It just stopped working. I have not changed anything, updated anything, and I have not installed any new software either. Yesterday it worked, today it doesn't.

So I tried the "get latest version of flash" link, but it fails to install and recommends a manual install instead. I tried that and Flash installs without any problems. Restart Firefox and yep, you guessed it, it does the very same thing. So I did the google search and tried several of the recommended "fixes", none of which work for me.

I even uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it to see if my browser had somehow became corrupted. Nothing works. So now I am FORCED to use Internet Explorer, which I absolutely hate. I'm going to give up.

In Firefox, if you enter about:plugins in the address bar, is Shockwave Flash listed? Under that, it should show something like:

File name: NPSWF32.dll
Shockwave Flash 9.0 r124

and a few MIME types.

If it's shown there, the plugin is installed. Is it only one specific web site that doesn't show the Flash? If so, the problem might be on their page's HTML.

I agree completely with the Firefox way of going in regards to security. But in the end, I don't use it just because it's too techy for me to keep on top of things. I know there's a gazillion security holes in IE, but it's still the most user-friendliest browser I know (save the crashes). I guess it all comes down to laziness and age. It's the same reason I use blogspot for my blog: I could install wordpress or something on my own website, but to keep it updated and maintained and working for all to see just sucks too much time out of my life that I can use elsewhere. And will all the upgrades and advances to development and the online enviroment, I'd just assume someone else do all the work for me.

Still, good luck with getting flash up and running. I still wish Adobe didn't aquire Macromedia. Google should have instead :)

Jacob,

Shockwave Flash is NOT installed according to the instructions you gave me to check for it.

I can't seem to make it install either. Thanks for your help.
